Who is Homer?

Homer appeared many years ago during a weekly television show in Los Angeles, California hosted by the founder of CEFE. The show, Talking Investments, aired for almost three years and was directed at a daytime audience of southern Californians interested in the latest information on money and investing. The format was one that included expert interviews of Wall Street's gurus and call-ins from the audience to ask questions of the experts.

The producer however, wasn't impressed with the youth of the investment expert host so the "Kid" invented Homer, a. mythical investment sage, that showed up for the audience as the "Kid's" expert reference. Homer was a caricature of the investment experts the host had come to know over the years.

Homer and the "Kid"  live on. The Kid asks the questions we might want to know the answers to and Homer, patiently and sometimes not so patiently, doles out points of view.

Today, the "Kid" is the one who is always looking for insider information and doggedly determined to find out from Homer the proverbial 'Hot Tip' that will make him rich, if not "richer".

For the record, Homer describes a recession as an economic downturn "evidenced by when your neighbor is out of work" and a depression when "you're out of work."

Homer follows one thing -- his gut. He will tell anyone who will listen that "if you have enough brains to make money, you have enough to lose it -- All on your own!"

About today's army of so-called money "gurus", he says that "If they're so dadgum smart, how come they're not rich?" His absolute best one though is "A fool and his money are soon parted."

When it comes to himself, he admits that "The good Lord takes care of children and fools, and I, my friend, easily fall into both categories!"
